How to make your gel manicure last

Long-lasting gel starts in the chair, but a few easy habits at home keep it glossy for weeks.

Long-lasting gel is what we're known for at Tips & Toes. A good gel manicure is shaped, cured and glossy for weeks. Most of that work happens at our table in Round Rock, but what you do between visits matters too. Here are the habits we share with guests.

Treat your nails like jewels, not tools

Opening cans, scraping labels and prying lids are the quickest way to lift an edge. Reach for a spoon or a key instead, and your gel will thank you.

Gloves for chores

Hot water and cleaning products are hard on any manicure. Pull on a pair of gloves for dishes and cleaning to keep the finish smooth.

A drop of cuticle oil

A little cuticle oil each evening keeps the skin around your nails soft and helps your manicure look freshly done.

Don't peel. Please.

It's tempting when an edge lifts, but peeling gel can take layers of your natural nail with it. Book a gel removal instead. It's $10, and it's gentle.

  • Gel manicure: $40, with a free hand massage
  • Gel removal: $10
